Quick Facts About OMG! Fish Oils
OMG! Fish Oils are a low mercury, non-GMO, high quality pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplement. They have nearly 250% more EPA and DHA per softgel than many major brands that you can at your local store or supplement shop.
EPA/DHA are recognized supporting cardiovascular health, lowering bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels, increasing good cholesterol, supporting normal blood pressure levels, treating depression, improving circulation and brain function, bolstering the immune system and reducing inflammation.
Ever try a fish oil from another company and experience that nasty aftertaste? That’s because that ‘fishy burp’ is due to the oil itself being rancid.
We've made sure our fish oil has no burps or bad aftertaste. This happens because a lot of fish oils can be rancid. According to Dr. Michael Eades, fish oil capsules contain highly unsaturated DHA and EPA.
Unfortunately, the less saturated an oil is, the more unstable it is and the more quickly it degrades. In fact, it is one of the reasons fish goes bad so quickly. Just how many of the fish oil capsules on the market are rancid? You might be surprised.
Research has shown that there are tons of fish oils on the market that are rancid. Researchers at New Zealand’s Crop and Food Research Institute tested capsules from an array of brands from countries all over the world and discovered that a majority of the capsules they tested had begun to oxidize.
We guarantee our fish oils are 100% pharmaceutical grade, and every precaution is taken to prevent them from oxidizing, which causes the rancidity.
In general, fish oils are effective in high enough quantities. A lot of major name brand fish oils are not potent and to many health professionals, most of these fish oils available for purchase are ineffective and frankly, a big waste of money.
Many companies also claim that their fish oils are high quality and pharmaceutical grade, but sadly they are not.
We're in an unregulated industry, so it’s easy for companies to do this. However, we care about quality and had a COA (Certificate of Analysis) made by an independent 3rd party lab to ensure the purity and potency of our ingredients. Our COA is available for your reference at your request.
Take 2 softgels with breakfast and 2 softgels with dinner. In total, you should take 4 softgels a day.
Since fish oils are one of the few supplements that come from living organisms, we feel Non-GMO is important. Non-GMO stands for "non-genetically modified organisms". Our promise is that no genetic modification/engineering techniques were used to product OMG! fish oils.
Molecular distillation is the process of removing the toxins, mercury (metals) and POPs (persistent organic pollutants) from the fish oils.
The FDA states that anchovies have the lowest mercury levels, which is how OMG! fish oils are sourced from. 100% anchovies. No mackerel (34x more mercury), no herring (11x more mercury), no salmon (4x more mercury), and no sardine (2x more mercury). You're getting fish that has the lowest mercury levels possible.
Fish contain mercury and lots of it based on the size of the fish as you can see from the FDA. The scientific word is “bioaccumulates”. This is the idea that because larger fish consume smaller fish, the mercury levels increase in the larger fish. In general, this is why larger fish are typically a bigger risk to consume than smaller fish.
Foods that have Omega 3s are cold water fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, anchovies, sardines, tuna, phytoplankton, and non-fish products such as eggs, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, flax seeds, edamame beans, etc. Again, the fish products are the ones that contain the EPA and DHA, which are used more effectively by our body. The other sources contain ‘ALA’.
Did you know that it would cost approximately $35-50 per week to get enough Omega 3s for optimal health naturally from food? Crazy, huh? That is why supporting your needs with a high-quality supplement is not a bad idea.
Intensive cardio and strength training programs, as well as nutrition programs for bone strengthening, cardiovascular health, immune health, and brain/nervous system development - all recommend consuming adequate Omega 3s for optimal health.
It’s also important to know that if large quantities of alcohol are being consumed, Omega 3 supplementation won’t improve the areas where the alcohol is damaging, but fish oils can help protect against alcohol neurological damage and risk of dementia if alcohol consumption is low or moderate.
Omega 3 fish oil dosage varies depending what your goal of supplementation is.
For general health, 250mg/day of combined EPA and DHA is the minimum dose that should be obtained food and/or supplements. EPA and DHA are the two forms of Omega 3 that are used most effectively by your body. The general recommendation for optimal health is 1g daily (of combined EPA and DHA).
If your goal is to reduce soreness, a 6g dose, spread over the course of a day, will be effective.
There is no maximum upper limit established for fish oil intake, but it is a good idea to go with the above 250mg-1g daily recommendation, unless there is a therapeutic reason to take higher amounts (up to 6g/day), such as to reduce triglyceride levels or to help improve pain/inflammation after a period of stress on the body.
Most people can consume fish oils at any time of day. It is not very common, but if you find they are hard on your stomach you should take the fish oils with food or within 30 minutes before a meal. You do not need to cycle on/off fish oils, and can take daily to reach your recommended daily Omega 3 needed intake.
If you are pregnant, it is even more important for you to meet your Omega 3 needs for optimal health for you and your baby. The great thing is that it is safe for even pregnant women to take fish oils.
